About Catmint

Catmint is a perennial ornamental in the mint family, grown for lavender-blue flower spikes and gray-green leaves. It is milder than catnip. It can spread — give it a border, not a tiny herb pot you forget.

When to Plant

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost, or divide established plants in spring.

How to Plant

Sow on the surface; light helps. Transplant 12–18 inches apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Fertilization generally isn’t required. Shear after the first bloom for a second flush.

When to Harvest

Use fresh or dried leaves in teas and sachets. Cut stems as flowers open. Dry out of direct sun.
