About Marjoram

Sweet marjoram is a tender perennial, usually grown as an annual north of Zone 8. Milder than oregano. Start it indoors — “as a houseplant” is how you overwinter it, not how you start seed.

When to Plant

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Transplant after frost.

How to Plant

Sow on the surface; needs light. Transplant 8–12 inches apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Pinch tips.

When to Harvest

Harvest young leaves before bloom. Cut flowers off to keep flavor from turning bitter. Dry in a dark, airy place.
