About Chamomile
German chamomile is a self-sowing annual grown for apple-scented flower heads. Roman is a low perennial groundcover. This guide is for German, the tea crop.
When to Plant
Surface-sow indoors 6 weeks before last frost, or direct-sow after frost. Seed needs light.
How to Plant
Press seed onto moist soil; do not cover. Thin to 6–8 inches. Full sun to part sun. Average, well-drained soil. Water gently until established.
When to Harvest
Pick flower heads as they open, on a dry morning. Dry until crisp. Store flowers in an airtight jar away from sun. Leaves are not the crop.
