About Yarrow

Yarrow is a hardy perennial with feathery leaves and flat flower umbels. Garden types come in many colors; wild white is the herbal traditionalist. It can spread.

When to Plant

Surface-sow indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost, or direct-sow after frost. Zones 3–9.

How to Plant

Needs light to germinate. Transplant 12–18 inches apart in full sun and lean soil. Too-rich soil makes floppy stems.

When to Harvest

Two different harvests, not one step: cut leaves anytime for herbal use; cut flower heads at full bloom for drying. Do not write both as if they were the same action. Hang bunches to dry.
