About Catnip

Catnip is the true cat herb. It spreads by seed and root. Plant in a pot sunk in the bed, or cats and the plant will vote on the layout.

When to Plant

Direct-sow after frost or start indoors 4–6 weeks earlier. Perennial in Zones 3–9.

How to Plant

Sow ¼ inch deep. Thin to 12–18 inches. Full sun to part shade, average soil. Water until established, then it is drought-tough.

When to Harvest

Cut stems as they bloom. Spread the plant out in a single layer to dry out of direct sun. Store in jars. Fresh leaves work in tea as well.
